Rochas was founded in 1925 by Marcel Rochas as a French fashion house. Marcel Rochas anticipaiting the needs of moden women was the first to design 2/3 coats and skirts with pockets. He also created the “mermaid” dress, which continues to inspire women’s dress designs today.

The company first introduces fragrances in 1934, but company’s most famous fragrance, Femme, was launched in 1944. Rochas was one of the firsts to adopt cross-sale introducing companion products as lipsticks and stockings for Femme.

The cosmetics division was a gret success, and Marcel Rochas decided to close haute couture division in 1953. His young wife Hélèn took the management, after he passed away, and convert the house into a high value company before selling it in 1971.

The company has changed hands several times and now fragrances remain the most important product of Rochas, and Rochas has employed its own in-house perfumer, Jean Michel Duriez, since 2008.
